Diagnosis and Assessment
Training in Best Clinical Practice and the use of Diagnostic Tools
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) provides Guidance on referring and diagnosing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children and adults. The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) has also developed a toolkit on ASD for primary healthcare professionals, commissioners, individuals on the autism spectrum and families.
AT-Autism Directors and Associates were involved in developing these and other health practitioner guidance. We provide training days on best practice for the referral, assessment and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental disorders including autism, as well as how to create a more inclusive clinical environment for individuals and families.
There are a number of screening and diagnostic tools that healthcare practitioners may find useful in the assessment process, in diagnosing autism and understanding more about the range of features that could present.
In children and adults, The Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R) and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) are two commonly used and reliable tools for assisting a clinician in the diagnostic process. In adults, the Asperger Syndrome (and High-Functioning Autism) Diagnostic Interview (ASDI) and The Ritvo Autism Asperger Diagnostic Scale-Revised (RAADS-R) are also recommended by NICE.
AT-Autism Directors and Associates are trainers in these and other assessment measures and can arrange certified training courses either in-house or at a venue local to you.
